Cows on Summer Pasture
Christina's herd of beef cattle spends the summer on a 1200 acre community pasture. About once a month, we go out to check on the cows and spend some time taking pictures.
We carry pails of mineral salt out to an open spot on a hill and Christina calls as loud as she can. The cows love the salt. They know her voice and when they hear her call they come running.
After they finish their salt, we sit in the pasture and hang out with the cows, talk to them, pet them and take their pictures.
Today we are leading them to a pretty spot we know in the north pasture.
The cows followed us to the pasture we had in mind and decided to eat the tasty berries off the hawthorn bushes and have a nap in the shade.
This cow pasture is our studio today. We take it slow and spend time with the animals. That is how we take photos that are real and fresh.
We enjoyed their company for an hour or two before we headed for home.
